Indian Blog Picks – the best blogs in india (1)

I’m going to start a new series of posts (maybe one a week) in which i would like to highlight some of the best original indian stuff out there. I am not a critic, just a fanboy of indian indie-giri, so these will not be “balanced” posts, these will be “hero” pieces. They will be fawning, praising happy flowery reviews> if you want something else, go read sartre. or kafka.

so… there’s a huge list of blogs which already come to mind (u know who you are 🙂 ) but first, some criteria/caveats

1. It needs to have *some* readership – “some” being purely subjective an decided by moi

2. There’s a difference between good adult erotic content and porn. I MAY mention the former.

3. if you don’t like these blogs, you’re stupid. simple.

so, with THAT  i give you *drumroll*

Collectivity’s First BLOG PICK

Ha. made you click. You’re welcome @sahilriz for that infinitesmial bump this post may give your blog. (really… a smidgen, maybe even less). But you deserve it!

The Vigil Idiot is a testament to what bad drawing skill, great writing talent, and the wonderfully absurd muse  that is indian cinema can give us. It can give us witty, trenchant, horribly drawn spoofs of our favorite (or not) films. Dry, geekish, trenchant, droll, intelligent… but still *ahem*  faithfultoindianculture.

Remember 3 idiots? that seminal amazing culturegasm of a film? Well, i like his review MORE.

Annnnd (wait for it) this blog has been adopted by “mainstream media!” ok, fine, its the mumbai mirror, but still, this blog has gone legit (iish) folks

As a recipient of collectivity’s FIRST EVER blog pick (YAY!) , @ sahilriz will start the tradition of filling in the COLLECTIVITY INSIGHTOPEDIA ™with his answers to the following questions.

1.  So, you’re a total studly independent internent content creator influencer person type, eh? how does that FEEL?

Oddly powerless. If only online studliness translated to real life… *Sigh*

2. Seriously though, when did you first start thinking… hey, i could be on to something?

I still don’t. I’m surprised people haven’t realized that I’ve been recycling the same jokes almost every strip. Pretty sure they will, in 3… 2…. 1.

3. How long till your blog – to – book deal?

Find me a publisher, man! And something they’ll find publishable, while you’re at it. =p I’m open to anything for the moolahz!

4. When do we see the vigil idiot doing the classics – yknow… sholay, don, gunmaster g-9?

It’s hard enough keeping track of the weekend releases right now, being a one-man operation and all. But yeah. It’d be nice if I can branch out and set up a classics section eventually. Dekhte hain!

On a side note – Gunmaster G9 is an epic piece of filmmaking genius. I would never dare touch it! =D

5. and of course, what next… any clue?

Getting producers to pay me to go easy on their films. Everything I’ve been doing on the site has been done with a single-minded focus on achieving that goal. No, really. =p

Also, much thanks! Honoured to be the first pick, I am! =)

So friend him on facebook, follow him on twitter, and bookmark his blog for the best movie reviews ever. I don’t know why you aren’t already.

Till next week folks!

PS. there is no collectivity insightopedia. so dont wait for it.
